The incident took place Thursday at 1 Greyrock Place in Stamford when structural shoring being removed gave way, falling on a worker who was positioned below it, said Stamford Fire Capt. Philip Hayes in a statement.
Responding units from the Stamford Fire Department and Stamford EMS found the worker in an elevated confined space area of the building which was under construction, Hayes said.
Three fire trucks responded to the scene and firefighters stabilized and disentangled the man, after removing steel rebar blocking access to the injured man, he added.
Once secured, the worker was secured into a stokes basket and lowered to the ground using an aerial device on one of the fire trucks.
The man was then transferred to Stamford EMS who continued to treat the patient for his injuries before transporting him to Stamford Hospital, Hayes said.
The cause for the collapse is under investigation by OSHA.
